My name is Matthew and I want to help you figure out why that refrigerator stop working, I aways recommend that you call a Appliance Repair Pro for all repairs, but before the pro comes I am sure you are going to want an idea of what could be going on,Lets check a few things to determine what could be wrong with your Kenmore Refrigerator,
1. Your Refrigerator should be receiving 120 volts of electricity ( does the refrigerator light come on? )
2. Your Freezer should have a Fan running .(on most refrigerator the door switch must be pushed in for fan to work? )
3. Your Condenser fan should be running ( located in the back of the refrigerator )
4. Your Compressor should be running ( Is the compressor hot ? Is the compressor humming ? )
Now lets say that you check 1 -4 and all the parts are working then lets open the freezer door and look at the back wall behind your food,do you notice any frost / snow build up ? If you then you may just have a defrost problem which is real common on refrigerators , When you have a defrost problem that means that one of three parts could have gone bad,
1. Advance the timer to the defrost position
( most timers are located by the temp settings or by the toe plate )
2. Test the heater element for continuity ( must use a multi meter ) recommend call a pro...
3. Test the defrost thermostat ( most thermostats tops separate and just look broken )
4. worst case is that if your refrigerator has a computer board that may be the problem )
5. Test your Temp control switch , ( the part could have a short in it )
Need Part Prices
Lets that you open the freezer door and did not see any frost / snow build up then you may have a sealed system problem, when you have a sealed system problem then you could have one of 2 problems .
1. You may be low on Freon ( and that point you would have to find the leak and replace that part )
2. You may have a bad compressor and that part is replaced all the time it may cost 650 to 700 for repair
ALWAYS RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE A PRO REPAIR YOUR REFRIGERATOR
